emWave® for Mac, by HeartMath© is a stress relief product that comes with a software, module that serves as a visual of a heart/pulse monitor that connects to your earlobe. I received the software kit after receiving a random email from the PR dept of this firm, as often happens as the groups ambassador. I knew nothing about the product so had to do a little digging to understand what its purpose is.
The emWave main screen

Turns out to be a “near silicon valley” based company company that focuses on health improvement in the health industry, and corporation, as well as individual stress relievers. The video I show below is an example of how they go into a corporate facility and assist in lowering stress with the individuals using these tools.

My package included the software and a USB dongle with a port for the earlobe clip to connect to. This sends your pulse through the USB port to monitor your heartbeat.

Basically, using simple techniques the software assists you in lowering your pulse rate. It does this by visual tools and games which progress, or advance, when you are properly lowering your heart rate.
The “Garden Game” within emWave as it begins...
The “Garden Game” within emWave when you “do it right”...

The tools also include a “Coherence Coach” with the purpose of increasing your “coherence” or alignment with a less stressful heart rate.

I was successful in “attaining” the happy little forest animals and certainly noticed that my heart rate was slower, but my mind still was drawn towards the little tasks I had to perform in my day today, though I did notice that I didn’t feel as anxious about them.

It is an interesting application of the use of a computer, for sure. Often the computer can cause plenty of stress on its own, so any aid in lowering that is welcome.

We will be giving away this complete copy of emWave, a $299 piece of kit at our next meeting. So if you are serious about stress relief please come join the free raffle on the 20th of August, 2009.

Learn more about emWave over at the manufacturers website: HeartMath
